Contract: The Phantom of Eldberg
If you got this far, clearly you know how to read, so read the rest, and read it well.
A wraith'south sprung upwardly on Eldberg and covered the whole isle in fog and put out the lite in our lighthouse. If you're afraid to confront a ghost in boxing, stay far from Eldberg, for there you'll find neither gold nor glory, only death. But if you've faced such phantoms before, and then know that I, Jorund of Arinbjorn, will pay my own golden to you if you bulldoze off the spirits from our association'southward territories.

Walkthrough [ ]

Y'all can start this quest a few different means:

  • talk to Jorund directly in Arinbjorn's tavern
  • notice the notice on Arinbjorn's notice board
  • during The King is Dead – Long Alive the Rex, defeat Madman Lugos in a fistfight and he'll remark on information technology
  • investigate the area straight

If you notice the find first (or enter the tavern) you'll come across Kori and Kraki, two Skelligers who patently don't like Continentals. You can get with whichever remark before Jorund appears and makes them run off earlier inviting you to come sit with him if you wish. Follow him over to his table and talk to him to learn near the foreign circumstances about Eldberg and he'll tell you about ii men and the lighthouse keeper, Mikkjal, take gone missing.

Later on, head out to the isle (the easiest manner is to caput north to Arinbjorn's port and become a gunkhole and fast travel to the harbor on the southern tip of Eldberg). Every bit you make your style along the path, y'all'll come across wraiths and likely find the first dead body that you tin can examine. Further forth, merely before the hut, you'll find the second torso. At present go and knock on the hut's door for some dialogue with Mikkjal.

If you talked to Jorund beginning, Mikkjal will just tell yous how he concluded up in the hut and virtually a big wraith before giving you the lighthouse key (25 XP earned based on the Story and Swords! difficulty level). If y'all found him outset past investigating the expanse directly, he'll instead talk a bit more than about what he noticed earlier he hid in the hut. Afterwards, head to the lighthouse similar normal, dealing with any wraiths along the way.

Once at the lighthouse, examine the markings on the belfry to acquire it'southward a curse and the large wraith must be a penitent. This will then award (25 XP earned based on the Story and Swords! difficulty level) and Geralt will remark about how y'all have to become back to Mikkjal. Merely if yous want to learn the total story, head into the lighthouse by unlocking the door and caput upwards the ladder to the first landing. Boodle the certificate right in front of you and read it to acquire Mikkjal didn't exactly tell you everything.

Note: If you lot don't unlock the door to the lighthouse now earlier returning to Mikkjal, the key will be taken from y'all and the door will stay locked.

Head dorsum to talk to Mikkjal. If you found and read the alphabetic character, Geralt volition confront him near it just if you didn't find the letter the upshot's the same: you need to escort him out to have him light the fire to lift the curse. Note that while you can set on the penitent, y'all can't truly kill it until the fire is lit, though Geralt volition brand a remark when it's washed to let yous know. Once the penitent is dead, loot information technology for the wraith trophy and Ashrune. Mikkjal will so approach and, if you found the letter, you can tell him you'll let this slide or tell him to leave. Otherwise, Geralt will just remark he's not sure what brought the penitent in that location.

Yet y'all dealt with Mikkjal, head to Arinbjorn to plow in the quest. If you investigated the area straight (didn't talk to Jorund) you'll need to get the notice off the notice lath beginning and head into the tavern (which follows the same script above where you're initially confronted by Kori and Kraki). Jorund volition be glad the problem is solved and rewards you with 260 XP earned based on the Story and Swords! difficulty level and 184 Oren3.png.

What happens next depends on if this is your concluding visit to Jorund and if Rex's Gambit has already been completed (or failed). If it's still available, equally you go to exit Kori and Kraki will pull you and Jorund into a fight. While the two troublemakers will be killed, ane of them managed to fatally wound Jorund, who'll besides die there. Every bit you lot so exit the tavern, you'll be confronted by their father, Leif and, with no witness willing to speak for you, you'll be taken and thrown into jail, starting Stranger in a Strange Country.

If King's Gambit was already completed/failed though, the fight won't happen and thus Jorund will live.

Journal Entry [ ]

If Geralt starts the quest from Jorund:

The ghost haunted the nearby islet of Eldberg, a barren stone of no involvement to anyone save for the lighthouse erected upon it. This meant information technology had become most unto incommunicable to safely navigate a ship into Arinbjorn harbor after dark. The witcher's task was to hunt off the phantom and detect out what had happened to the lighthouse keeper.

It turned out the monster of Eldberg was a Penitent - a dangerous wraith which haunted peculiarly foul sinners.
If Geralt tells Mikkjal to leave:

These misdeeds were what had fatigued the phantom. Geralt dealt with situation as he saw fit and then went to collect his reward.
